Urea hydrolysis in different farmland soils as affected by long-term biochar application

چکیده
Urea is a commonly used nitrogen (N) fertilizer that contributes to world food production, and there have been increasing concerns about relatively low urea-N use efficiency. Biochar has shown the potential mitigate N loss, but how biochar influences urea hydrolysis underlying mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, long-term biochar-amended upland, paddy greenhouse soils were sampled at depths of 0–20 20–40 cm in Haicheng City, Northeast China. Soil contents, rates (UHRs), total, intracellular extracellular urease activities determined, as well total bacterial ureolytic microbial gene abundance quantified. The results showed increased activity by 32.64–66.39% upland soil 2.90–2.13-fold soil. Both ureases contributed increase activity. However, soil, (+35.07–74.22%) (−40.14–77.68%) responded inconsistently incorporation. Increases ureC copy numbers (2.15- 4.47-fold) (20.93%) implied stimulated microorganisms capable producing urease, liming effect pH (0.11–0.60 units), which optimized reaction, together explained increases We found decreased content was accompanied higher UHR soils, suggesting accelerated exerted negative on content, possibly caused excessive NH 3 volatilization. where not increased, an effective amendment for simultaneously improving content.

Biochar application to soils is being considered as a means to sequester carbon (C) while concurrently improving soil functions. The main focus of this report is providing a critical scientific review of the current state of knowledge regarding the effects of biochar application to soils on soil properties and functions. Wider issues, including atmospheric emissions and occupational health and ...
متن کاملsoil characteristics affected by long term application of sewage wastewater
the long term effects of sewage water irrigation on soil properties and heavy metal concentrations at rohtak city, haryana (india) was investigated. at each location, soil samples were collected from the upper layer (0-10cm) for determination of various physico-chemical parameters. heavy metals (pb, cu, mn, zn, cd, ni, and fe) were also determined. the chemical analysis of sewage effluent showe...
متن کاملMaize Stover Biochar Accelerated Urea Hydrolysis and Short-term Nitrogen Turnover in Soil
A soil incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of biochar application (2% w/w) on urea hydrolysis and inorganic nitrogen accumulation. Fresh biochars were produced from maize stover that was pyrolyzed at 300 °C, 500 °C, and 700 °C. Then the matured biochars were obtained via a 50 days maturing process. Biochar prepared at 700 °C strongly accelerated the urea hydrolysis and...
متن کاملExtractable Phosphorus as Affected by Humic Acid Application in Salt Affected Soils
To use of organic fertilizer sources for increasing crops production on sustainable basis has become imperative because the cost of chemical fertilizers is high. An experiment was conducted during 2006 on two saltaffected soils of District Charsadda to evaluate the effect of different levels of single super phosphate (SSP) alone and in combination with humic acid (HA) on phosphorus availability...
متن کاملTemporal Variation of Interrill Erosion Affected by Slope Gradient in Soils with Different Texture
The process of splash of soil particles by raindrops and their transport by splash or surface shallow flow is considered as interrill erosion, which can reduce soil fertility and cause pollution of surface water. This research was carried out to investigate the temporal variation of interrill erosion in different soils affected by surface slope. For this purpose, laboratory experiments were car...
